Good to Know

General Questions

I’ve never been to Africa before — is this trip suitable for me?

Absolutely — most of our guests are visiting Southern Africa for the first time. Our team has a combined 50-plus years of experience arranging safaris and yoga retreats here; we handle every detail so you can simply arrive and relax into the experience.

How much of the trip is organised for me, versus things I need to arrange myself?

Everything meaningful is arranged for you — accommodation, transfers, activities and guides. You just need to get yourself to the airport; we handle the rest.

Is it safe to travel here if I’ve never done a safari-style trip before?

Yes. These are some of the most established, well-run safari destinations in the world, and every activity is led by experienced local guides.

What if I’m nervous about wildlife, remote lodges, or being far from home?

That’s completely normal, and by day two almost every first-time guest tells us the nerves were unfounded. Our guides brief you on everything before it happens, and you’re never navigating it alone.

Do I need any special preparation before I arrive?

Very little — we send a full pre-departure guide covering packing, health precautions and what to expect, so there are no surprises when you land.

For Retreat Leaders

First Trip to Africa With Your Students?

These are the questions we hear most from international teachers and studio owners who haven’t travelled to Africa before.

How hard is it to book accommodation and transfers while we’re on our retreat?

Not hard at all — that’s our job. Between us and our on-the-ground partners, we have a combined 50-plus years of experience booking safaris, lodges and transfers across Southern Africa. Every room, vehicle and border crossing is arranged before your group ever lands, so you can focus on teaching and your students can focus on practice.

I’ve never organised a retreat outside my home country — how much will you actually handle for us?

Everything on the ground. Accommodation, transfers, permits, activities, local guides and daily logistics are ours to manage from arrival to departure. You bring your students and your teaching; we bring the destination expertise.

None of us have been to Africa before — is it safe to travel here as a group?

Yes. Millions of travellers visit Southern Africa’s safari destinations every year, and our destinations are among the most established and well-run in the region. We brief every group on local safety practices before departure, and our guides are with you for anything wildlife- or activity-related.

Will someone be with us at every step, or are we left to find our own way between locations?

You’re never left to figure it out alone. A local guide or driver meets your group at each transfer point, and we remain contactable throughout the trip for anything that comes up.

What happens if a flight is delayed or a student misses a connection?

We build buffer time into every itinerary and monitor flights on travel days. If a delay happens, our local team adjusts transfers and lodge arrivals accordingly — it’s a normal part of what we manage.

Will there be a language barrier with drivers, guides or lodge staff?

No — English is the language of tourism and business across all five of our destinations, and every guide, driver and lodge team we work with is fluent.

How do we handle cash, tipping and payments while travelling?

We’ll send a simple money guide before departure covering local currency, typical tipping guidelines, and where cards are accepted. Most lodges and activities take card payment; cash is mainly needed for small tips.

What’s the wildlife safety protocol at the lodges and camps?

Every property we use has clear safety guidance — many are unfenced, so guests are escorted after dark and briefed on-site on how to move around safely. Guides handle every wildlife encounter; nothing is left to chance.

Is the drinking water safe, and can you cater to dietary requirements?

Lodges provide filtered or bottled water throughout, and kitchens are used to catering for vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs — just let us know when you book.

What’s the WiFi and cell signal like on retreat?

It varies by destination — most lodges have WiFi in communal areas, though it can be limited in more remote camps. We’ll flag connectivity expectations for each stop in your itinerary so your group can plan accordingly.

How physically demanding is the travel itself?

Manageable for most fitness levels. Transfers can involve gravel roads and some walking on uneven ground, but nothing requires more than a reasonable level of mobility — we’ll flag any exceptions for a specific itinerary.

What should we tell nervous first-time travellers in our group?

That they’re in experienced hands. Every element — from the airport pickup to the last transfer home — is coordinated by a team that has been doing this for decades. First-time nerves are normal, and they tend to disappear by day two.

Who do we contact if something goes wrong once we’ve landed?

You’ll have a direct local contact number for the full duration of your trip, in addition to our main line — someone is always reachable.

Do you arrange airport pickup, or do we need our own transport on arrival?

Airport pickup is included as standard — you’ll be met on arrival and transferred directly into the itinerary.

How far in advance do border crossings or park permits need to be arranged for a multi-country itinerary?

We handle all permits and border logistics as part of planning, typically finalised weeks ahead of departure — it’s one less thing for you or your students to think about.
